Loving God. Loving Kids.

Children's Ministry

Tru Fire Philosophy of Ministry

At Bethel Assembly we value kids, and our kids ministry is more than your average kid’s Sunday School program. We have CHURCH FOR KIDS. Whether it’s our preschool or middle school program, we take time to lead children into the presence of God. We use kid-friendly activities and work to support parents as they raise their children to love Jesus, the church, and God’s word.

Spirit-Empowered Focus

Tru Fire positions the Holy Spirit as teacher. It is grounded in the belief that the Holy Spirit speaks to kids, and they can discern His voice. Lessons intentionally create space where He is free to move, teach, and lead in kids’ lives.

Interactive Response Stations

Tru Fire leads kids to a life-changing truth: When we hear God’s Word, we respond. Lessons inspire kids as they walk through the narrative of God’s Big Story. Interactive response stations allow them to tangibly express they’ve learned about the character of God and respond to the Holy Spirit.

Built In Family Support

We believe discipleship begins in the home. Tru Fire equips parents to be the primary spiritual leaders of their family. Parents are encouraged to introduce the next week’s truth with provided discussion questions, activities, and the theme of the Bible story.

More About Tru Fire

  • Tru Fire Blessings: program for 3-year olds that cements a solid foundation that God made them, loves them, and is with them.
  • Tru Fire Wonder: program for preschool and kindergarten that awakens kids’ curiosity to the wonder of who God is.
  • Tru Fire Story: program for grades 1-5 that invites kids into God’s redemptive story and allows them to reflect on and respond to Him.

WEEKLY PROGRAMS

Royal Rangers

Royal Rangers ministry for girls and boys meets at 6:30 pm on Wednesday nights throughout the school year. The program motivates children spiritually through Bible study and memorization, devotionals, and Christian role models. Children are strengthened mentally by an advanced awards-based weekly program. Further, children increase various skills as they participate in age-specific activities and recreation. Finally, they are introduced to church, community, and nature-related activities to develop their social skills and awareness.

Weekly Wednesday evening meetings are designed to develop the total child for Christ and offer love and understanding between the child and a Godly role model. The life of a Royal Ranger includes great outdoor adventures through camping, water activities, hiking, rappelling, and mountain climbing, as well as challenging indoor adventures.

Friday School

Friday School at Bethel is the place to be! Every Friday from about 8:40 to 9:20 AM, children gather to experience small groups for kids, enjoy breakfast and lively discussion about the month’s virtue (Godly character virtues that change each month). While they enjoy breakfast, the kids watch a short professionally produced DVD that highlights the week’s Bible story in a highly creative way. After breakfast, they break into small groups to dig into the topic further through a round-table discussion with their leaders. We invite your children to experience Friday School with us. We love kids!

Children’s Ministry Director

Christy Johnson

Christy Johnson grew up in Duluth, MN. She has an Elementary Education degree from the University of WI Eau Claire and, along with her husband, Seth, taught abroad in Kuwait and Indonesia from 2007-2012. She has a passion for Children’s Ministry, baking, and enjoying nature. More important than any of that, though, she loves to spend time with her three amazing kids: playing board games, reading, or just being together.
